John Plumb Blasts Advocates of Torture for Endangering National Security

"It is shameful," said Plumb, Jamestown Democratic and candidate for Congress. "Either they don’t understand the ramifications of their words or they simply don’t care; in either case, it should disqualify them as serious candidates for President and Commander in Chief."

John Plumb spoke specifically about the ramifications of the GOP rhetoric.

"Senator John McCain had it right when he said, 'Mistreatment of enemy prisoners endangers our own troops who might someday be held captive'," said John Plumb. "Such rhetoric not only diminishes our standing in the world, it weakens our national security and puts our brave military men and women - my brothers and sisters in arms - directly in harm's way. America is better than our enemies. The use of torture is illegal, and any order to use torture is an unlawful order that should not be followed. "

John Plumb is currently a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve after spending over 6 years on active duty. He deployed to the Middle East in 2007 and is currently in his 22nd year of military service.

"I call on every politician who would claim to support our troops and honor our veterans to publicly condemn this damaging rhetoric and pledge to not support any candidate that spews it," Plumb said.
